there's a new patch out that you can download that you have to copy into one of the folders. Wherever you can download it will probably tell you how.

I finally got mine working again, except for some reason now I'm level 70 and I've unlocked everything. Does this have something to do with any part of this process or how do I reverse this?

You can use a rank hack. You basically just choose what rank and prestige you want. You can find one here Just please, don't download an aimbot aswell ...

Is there a way to add friends on steam?
Because it says that i need a steam game..

I haven't been able to find a way to add friends but i accidentally found a way to get into a party with friends. We were clicking on random things and all of a sudden we were in each other's party but we figured out the sure way to do it.

Steps:
1- make a steam group and have your friends join that
2- start up MW2 and push play but don't join any games, just stay at that menu.
3- open up steam overlay thing and go to friends. you should see your group there
4- press the plus sign to the left of the group name and your groupmates should be listed there
5- right click on one of their names and click on "invite to game". It'll say that an invitation was sent but they won't get anything telling them
6- have that friend right click on your name and click on "join game" and they will pop up in your party.
7- HOORAY! you can now join games as a group (except in mercenary of course)
8- repeat steps 3-7 for however many friends you want in your party.

I think you can also add other people using the cracked version of MW2, i.e, other people playing Zero Gear or TMForever. I don't know though, i managed to add two people normally without creating a group etc.

But are you using a steam account with bought games? I don't have any bought games on my steam account so when i try to add someone it says that I need to have a steam game to add friends.

No i don't have any bought games. I can't add friends anymore, because i think i had the beta version of zero gear (where they gave you a serial code) so that was a legitimate game. I don't think i can add friends anymore though. I've not tried this but what if you get your friend to add you instead? Does your friend have a real copy of the game?

O yeah, you're right, i think people with real games can add me as friends. 2 random people added me as friends, haven't added them back though... And no my friends don't have legit copies so they just do the steam group thing, works out fine.
